Hydraulic check valves although simple, perform a very important function within a hydraulic system. Check valves allow the free flow of fluid in one direction and block the flow travelling in the opposite direction. Also known as an NRV (non-return valve) these simple devices help eliminate any potential damage caused by fluid backflow pressure. RS offer a range of high-quality hydraulic components from leading brands including Parker, Bosch Rexroth and of course RS PRO.
How does a Hydraulic Check Valve work?
Hydraulic check valves have two ports, an inlet port and an outlet port, they are flow sensitive and depend on the fluid to open and close the internal seat. Hydraulic check valves are quite unique, they are one of the only types of valve that does not require any human intervention to operate. Hydraulic check valves are completely self-automated.
Mounting types for Hydraulic Check Valves
Hydraulic check valves are available in two main mounting types. Inline threaded, or CETOP plate mounting.
Hydraulic Inline Threaded Check Valves
In-line check valves can be mounted directly in a hydraulic pipeline. They are typically made from steel or stainless steel with a tough nitrile rubber or nylon seal. Standard BSP threads in sizes ranging from 1/4 inch to 1 inch.
CETOP Mounting Hydraulic Check Valves
These check valves are enclosed in a metal or plastic housing and have a CETOP mounting pattern for modular construction. Available in double-acting or single-acting.
What is Cracking Pressure?
Cracking pressure refers to the minimum pressure differential needed between the inlet and outlet of the valve at which the first indication of flow occurs. When cracking pressure is reached, the valve will open to allow flow, when it drops the valve will close.
What is CETOP?
CETOP stands for Comité Européen des Transmissions Oléohydrauliques et Pneumatiques. CETOP is the European Fluid Power Committee. CETOP is the communications platform for fluid power in Europe. CETOP mounting valves have a standard mounting pattern for modular construction. It ensures that any valves from any manufacturer, providing the CETOP pattern is the same is compatible with each other.
