RS PRO Plastic Pipe Cement
Our RS PRO plastic pipe cement is a long lasting and reliable thixotropic solvent based cement, that creates a solid seal with PVC and CPVC plastic. Much like super glue and other adhesives, this non-drip solvent cement creates an airtight seal by chemically bonding together different types of materials that require a waterproof adhesive such as pipes, plastic covering and trunking. This long lasting solvent cement is ideal for use in applications where a tight, secure and waterproof seal is required, such as plumbing.
Our RS PRO range offers a wide variety of durable and reliable products that are excellent value for money. Each and every RS PRO product has been rigorously tried and tested against demanding industry standards, ensuring high-quality products that are trusted by engineers worldwide.

How to apply plastic pipe cement
Prior to applying the pipe cement, cut the pipe square and deburr, ensuring that the joining surfaces and clean and dry. Ideally, the fitting should go over the end of the pipe with ease, becoming tight around 1/3 to 2/3 of the way on. Use a suitable applicator that is at least 1/2 the size of the pipe diameter, for larger sizes use a swab or roller. Using a rag is not recommended as repeated contact with skin may cause irritation or blistering.
Next, apply a primer to the inside of the fitting that is equal to the socket depth. Without delay coat the end of the pipe up to the socket depth until soft. If Necessary a second application may be applied again to the fitting socket. Do not coat or allow the primer to run beyond the socket depth. In order to check the penetration, you can simply scratch the surface, recoating if necessary. Whilst still wet, apply the cement generously without brushing it out into a thin layer as this will cause it to dry too quickly. Immediately after applying an even amount of cement and whilst it is still wet, assemble the pipe and fittings with sufficient force and hold for around 30 seconds. Ensure that any excess is wiped of safely, avoiding contact with the skin.

How to store pipe cement
Solvent adhesives such as pipe cement are highly flammable and combustible, therefore they should be kept well away from heat sources such as flames or direct sunlight and should remain in the container with an airtight lid. Solvents such as pipe cement should never come into contact with skin or eyes, as it can cause severe pain, irritation and blistering. Where possible, protective clothing such as gloves and glasses should be worn at all times.
Can you remove plastic pipe cement?
As plastic pipe cement creates a chemical bond between the pipe and fitting, it is essentially welded into a single piece. Therefore, once dried plastic pipe cement cannot be removed using solvents as this will cause deterioration of the material.
